DDS Orthodontics (Doctorate in Dental Surgery)

This specialist doctoral programme in orthodontics equips you with the necessary skills for entry into orthodontic specialist practice and prepares you for the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) at one of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons.

Outstanding doctoral training in orthodontics

The next intake for this programme will be in September 2024.

The programme is broadly divided between academic modules, the treatment of patients under close supervision and a research project.

A Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) is an advanced qualification that will indicate your ability to design, undertake and apply appropriate research to relevant clinical problems.

Did you know?

  • Our comprehensive lecture and seminar programme covers all aspects of orthodontics, relevant basic medical sciences and research methods delivered by experts from the University and beyond.
  • Treatment sessions take place with your own patients, within diagnostic clinics, and also during case seminars and topic-related tutorials.
  • A diverse range of research projects covers contemporary areas of clinical practice and laboratory based research in orthodontics which is examined in the autumn of the final year.

The DDS course at Bristol can be highly recommended for the quality of the lectures, the development of research and study skills, and the opportunity to practice clinical orthodontics. It is certainly the most challenging course I have ever undertaken, both academically and in terms of time management but it is also the most worthwhile.
