Here are the thoughts of some of our recent students:
Studying at the University of Bristol has been one of the greatest experiences of my life; it wasn't just the unique and charming atmosphere of the whole city of Bristol, nor the state-of-the-art facilities that I had access to, it was also the the best chance to shape my research and analytical skills and bring them to its maximum potential always supported by its prestigious and formidable staff. During my time at the University of Bristol, I did everything from the manufacturing of composites materials to its physical testing and virtual analysis, and study of mechanical and chemical properties to design and characterize composites structures. The University of Bristol is among the best research and academic centers in the world, which allowed me to do my research project in partnership with GKN Aerospace working with real challenges in the industry.
The level of support I received from the industry experts and academics at this school is unparalleled, and its composite facilities are extensive and high-tech. Attending this programme broaden my horizons by exposing me to area, composites research I would not have known about before.
This programme has proven to be nothing short of extraordinary. I have immersed myself in an enriching journey, acquiring a profound comprehension of both the theoretical intricacies and practical applications for aerospace, automobiles, and the oil and gas industries. The hands-on lab sessions and thought-provoking projects refined my technical prowess. This immersive experience has seamlessly aligned my skills with diverse projects for renowned multinational corporations. Additionally, the programme also fosters a valuable network with accomplished alumni, providing guidance and support in navigating professional pathways during the entire course.
This programme provided me with a profound understanding of advanced composite materials and their applications, equipping me with the expertise needed to excel in this dynamic field. Through engaging lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and challenging projects, I gained a deep technical knowledge that forms the foundation of my expertise in this specialized area.Besides the technical skills, it also provided me with a valuable network of people that supported me during my studies and are still valuable connections to this day.
The quality of teaching was fantastic, and the state-of-the-art facilities within the BCI are second to none. The MSc program greatly benefits from the proximity to and strong partnerships with industrial partners and world-leading research centres. The wealth of practical experience I gained was instrumental in my being offered a graduate job, and I continue to benefit from what I learned while studying on this program.
Often working with composites, gaining experience in the industry – you’ll learn the ‘what’ and ‘how’. But it gives you an edge when you also know the answer to ‘why’. To stand out, both theoretical and practical knowledge in composites is needed, that is where University of Bristol can help you.
The course provided me with plenty of opportunities to gain hand-on experience during laboratories and project work. I developed my skills through an interdisciplinary project through the broad experience the University of Bristol provides. I am able to utilise the knowledge I gained through the MSc course in my ongoing PhD studies.
The course provided me with the necessary means (skills, and knowledge) to tackle the on-growing challenges that emerge in the field of advanced composite materials. The meticulously designed curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics ranging from the fundamentals of composite materials to cutting-edge research and industry applications, while also intertwining theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on experience.
I enrolled on the MSc Advanced Composites course looking to pursue a career in the composites industry after having studied as a Mechanical Engineer. The course involved a large element of hands-on experimental work which was complemented by an industry supported thesis benefiting from both the University’s & National Composites Centre’s facilities. The variety of modules offered set the scene for where the industry is today and the outstanding areas of research which has since led to roles in Aerospace Manufacturing and Research & Development
