Patrick's research focuses on classical Greek literature, especially tragedy and lyric poetry, and covers both long-familiar texts and recently-discovered papyri. He is the President of the Bristol branch of the Classical Association, and gives numerous talks on all aspects of classical literature to schools and CA branches. He has also frequently published in the CA's journal Omnibus on different aspects of his research, most recently on 'Sophocles' Oedipus the King – a tragedy of compassion', in Omnibus 75 (2018).
