IRW Showcase 2022

In 2022, we hosted our IRW Showcase at MShed, Bristol, on Monday 26th September. After a welcome  from Professor Awais Rashid and Professor Adam Joinson and and industry introductions from our attending industry partners, the showcase included:

  • A presentation by Andrej Kawalec, Vodafone
  • An industry panel discussion, chaired by Adam Joinson
  • Poster presentations from all our student cohorts
  • Responsible Innovation Challenge presentations from our students, chaired by Professor Richard Owen
  • Presentation from our 2021 IRW Challenge winners
  • Announcement of the  2022 IRW Challenge for our new cohort of students

In response to the iterative development of computing hardware since 1940s and increasing number of hardware-based attacks (e.g. Meltdown, Spectre) that cannot be ‘patched’, the 2022 IRW Challenge focused on whether cyber security has a "value", how can this value be measured and what factors might determine the value of security at any particular moment.

During the following week, our new CDT cohort (C4) worked in separate teams, initially in Bristol and then in Bath,  to develop and present their solutions to members of the CDT Leadership Team and College of Supervisors.  The week also enabled the new CDT students to meet potential PhD supervisors and learn about the many active research projects in both universities, associated with the CDT programme,  as well as getting to know their academic and peer mentors.
