In September 2019, we launched our new Centre for Doctoral Training in Cyber Security (TIPS-at-Scale)  in the Bristol Museum with over 80 students, industry and academic partners attending the event.  The day-long launch included:

  • Welcome from the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise
  • Introduction to the new TIPS-at-Scale Cyber Security CDT programme by Professor Awais Rashid and Professor Adam Joinson
  • Presentations from NCSC, HP Labs and Altran UK
  • Keynote talk from Professor Wouter Joosen (KU Leuven)
  • Themed panel discussion with industry partners
  • Tour of the TIPS-at-Scale Cyber Security CDT facilities
  • Announcement of the 2019 NCSC IRW Challenge

The 2019 IRW Challenge focused on Future Cyber Essentials and whether it is necessary to extend/introduce additional CE controls. The CDT students were tasked to identify possible new CE controls and justify the introduction of these new controls within organisations.

During the following week, our new CDT cohort (C1) worked in separate teams, initially in Bristol and then in Bath,  to develop and present their solutions to members of the CDT Leadership Team and NCSC.  The week also enabled the new CDT students to meet potential PhD supervisors and learn about the many active research projects across both universities associated with the CDT programme, as well as getting to know their academic mentors.
