Climate Impacts: Bristol and Beyond

In this talk, Daniela and Joe from the University of Bristol's Cabot Institute for the Environment, will show the impacts of climate change on Bristol and other parts of the world where communities are highly vulnerable to climate change. They will provide a context of current climate impacts, future risks and ways of working together to reduce vulnerabilities.

About the speakers

Prof Daniela Schmidt is Professor in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. Her work focusses on understanding vulnerability of people and nature in the context of climate change, especially in the context of coastal communities. She was coordinating lead author for the IPCC WGII chapter on Europe. Working with colleagues in the humanities, social science and law, she assesses adaptation options and aims to widen the discourse of climate change risks.

Dr Joe Daron is a Science Manager in the International Climate Services team at the Met Office and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol. He works with people across Africa and Asia to co-develop climate information services, helping address the risks associated with climate variability and change. Joe’s research is focused on improving methods for climate risk communication. He currently leads the Weather and Climate Science for Service Partnership (WCSSP) South Africa project.
