Large low-speed wind tunnel

If you are interested in using this facility, please contact Prof Mahdi Azarpeyvand

The A1 wind tunnel at the University of Bristol is closed-section wind tunnel, with a 2.1 m x 1.5 m octagonal test section and can reach flow speed of 60 m/s. The return section, measuring at 5.5 m x 2.6m, can also be used for testing of larger-scale models up to a flow speed of 12 m/s. The wind tunnel is equipped with a 6-DOF force balance system, which enables aerodynamic load measurements for a variety of large aero-components. The wind tunnel is also equipped with a unique gust generation system, consisting of two NACA-0015 profiled gust vanes. The vanes are capable of delivering up to a 10-degree gust and have a maximum operation frequency of 20 Hz. The A1 wind tunnel is used for aerodynamics of high lift devices, aerodynamics of wind turbine blades, flight mechanics, gust interaction and aeroelasticity studies of wings, high aspect ratio wings and dynamics of propellers and rotors, etc.
