Prudence Trust Grant

3 November 2021

Professor Esther Crawley to lead research on Mental Health

Congratulations to Professor Esther Crawley who has led a team of almost 50 researchers from across the University to success in becoming a research partner to the newly established Prudence Trust, alongside Oxford, King’s and UCL.  Set up by Prudence MacLeod, the Trust will support research to advance the understanding of depression and anxiety in young people, particularly in the areas of prevention, early intervention and building evidence on the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions and social prescribing.  Our research community in this complex area spans 14 Schools and 6 Faculties, and so this has been a welcome recognition of the interdisciplinary excellence at the University of Bristol.  In the opening round, the Trust expects to invest up to £4m in 2022, encompassing research projects and fellowships.  This is a funder who is looking to invest strategically over a longer period and we are delighted to be one of their first four partners.  We are hopeful that this relationship will lead to continued opportunities for funding and growth in this vital area of research over the coming years.
