Healthy Minds

The Healthy Minds programme aims to help students experiencing mental health difficulties.

Based at the Indoor Sports Centre on Tyndall Avenue, Healthy Minds supports students to take positive steps to improve the way you feel through a varied and socially engaging programme of physical activity. If you are new to exercise or feel you need more support to be more active, then this might be the right opportunity for you. Physical activity is a powerful tool in helping support wellbeing. We aim to help you to develop new skills, interests, and to find ways to help you feel better and stay well into the future.

We have now supported over 500 students in improving their wellbeing, boasting a 100% improvement rate.

How to take part

Healthy Minds is a referral programme. You can contact your faculty Student Wellbeing Advisers or Residential Life Advisors to discuss your eligibility for referral.

If you are receiving support from the Student Counselling Service or the Mental Health Advisory Service, you can discuss your eligibility in an appointment, or for further information contact our team.

How it works

Each activity programme is bespoke, adapting to your needs and circumstances. The programme includes direction and support from a qualified member of our fitness team, accessible opportunities of small group activity, and full access to our sports and exercise sites. We aim to find what you enjoy and support your development, encouraging activity wherever you feel comfortable.

Funding

This programme does not incur a charge for anyone eligible, however, we understand the link between finances and wellbeing. If cost is your main barrier to being more active, then we recommend speaking to the Student Funding Office. They will be able to discuss options of financial support.
