School of Mathematics join national AI mission, as University of Bristol announces two AI research hubs

Thanks to £21million funding from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the University is setting up two national AI research hubs.

Academics from the School of Maths will join engineers, and computer scientists on a new national mission, taking AI applications to uncharted heights in various settings, spanning healthcare, pandemics, cities, finance, and the environment. INFORMED-AI will be led by Bristol Mathematician Sidharth Jaggi, in collaboration with academics at the University of Cambridge, Durham University, and Imperial College London.

The Bristol-led hubs are among nine nationwide: three progressing mathematics and computational research crucial to AI. Maths academics will be working with various hubs across the UK, including Lancaster
