Maths students share their top tips for good mental health

Baking, exercising with friends, meditation and getting a good night’s sleep are just some of the suggestions from students of ways to help support good mental health.

Mathematics students were asked to share their tips as part of University Mental Health Day which took place on Thursday 9 March.  

The annual event, organised by Student Minds, is an opportunity to encourage open discussions around mental health and to remind students about the support available to them during their time at University.  

The School of Mathematics hosted a range of activities as part of the event, including mindfulness colouring, origami making and juggling. 

Some of the tips students shared were: 

  • Chat to your friends

  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Bake a cake for the people you love
  • Do daily exercise and don’t shy away from trying a new sport
  • Switch off from work when you get home
  • Go for a walk
  • Establish a routine
  • Be present
  • Meditate
  • Stroke a dog
  • Cherish quality time with the people you love
  • Give yourself a break 
  • Always get help when you need it
  • Painting
  • Find a new hobby
  • Read a book
