The School of Mathematics' Professor Welch was elected as President of the international academic body for set theory, the European Set Theory Society in January 2022.

Prof Welch said: "It is of course a pleasure to be honoured in this way, particularly at a time when set theory is enjoying something of a renaissance world-wide with increasing numbers of young mathematicians coming into the field."
