International Women's Day 2022

Students adding to the IWD message board

8 March 2022

In celebration of International Women's Day 2022 the School of Mathematics hosted a variety of activities for students and staff.

The Fry Building was host to activities and displays, in celebration of women's contribution and to actively enagage with gender equality.

Lightning talks from female staff in the school offered insight into their own areas of research, or other interesting areas of Mathematics. There was also a mini exhibition of inspiring female mathematicians, a pledge poster where thoughts on how we can contribute to a more inclusive world could be posted, a message board to share a message of inspriation or encouragement, and a photo corner, where you could be photographed holding up a sign of this year's International Women's Day (IWD) key message #BreakTheBias.

EDI co-chair and event co-organiser, Anna Müller, said: ‘Representing the work of female mathematicians, which we were able to do so visibly with our profile posters and talks, is so important for us as a School as we continue to tackle gender inequality. Staff and students enjoyed writing and hanging up positive messages and reminds us that we all have an impact on others.'
