The School of Law congratulates Thalia Prastitou, who has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.  Thalia's research, which was supervised by Professor Paula Giliker (Law) and Dr Nina Boeger (Law), examined the extent to which interpretation asymmetries are likely to prove an obstacle to the harmonised application of European Contract Law.

Thalia used comparative analysis to examine the transposition of EU Consumer Directives into English and Greek law, highlighting possible difficulties which might arise if the European Commission's proposed Regulation on a Common European Sales Law becomes law.  As such, it makes an excellent contribution to the current debate concerning both harmonisation of European private law and the development of the European consumer acquis.

Her examiners were Professor Gerard McMeel (Bristol) and Professor Chris Willett (University of Essex).
