Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Bristol

Our overarching aim is to ensure that the University of Bristol is the most inclusive place to work for everybody, regardless of background or circumstance, by creating an environment where everybody belongs, can be themselves, and do their best.

Our University is a place for everyone, located in one of the best cities on the planet, with ‘diverse and inclusive’ being the term most locals would choose to describe the 'famously bohemian’ city of Bristol (TimeOut, 2025).  This is a place where you can thrive and belong.  Where your unique way of viewing the world will help us to innovate. Where you can make a real difference and be part of our inclusive, collaborative and vibrant university community.

The central EDI Team provides strategic direction, leadership and practical support to colleagues across the universityWe strive to build a culture of inclusion and empathy where people can be themselves at work, recognising the value that diversity of people, perspective and experience bring to our ability to innovate and to maintain our position as a leading research-intensive university.

Our Team Vision: to ensure our university is a place where everyone belongs

Our Team Mission: to make a positive impact by ensuring that EDI is at the heart of everything we do

Our Purpose is to:

Accelerate our culture of inclusion where all staff are empowered to stand up and speak out and where every individual can bring their authentic selves to the workplace.

Embed an inclusive leadership ethos where leaders are accountable and responsible for generating a sense of belonging and psychological safety.

Share our expertise to support colleagues in building and retaining a workforce that is representative of different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences at all levels.

Deliver equitable outcomes for all by working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that their processes and policies are inclusive by design.
