Yanni Ou, a Research Associate and specialist in Communication Engineering at the University of Bristol, celebrated years of hard work and dedication by receiving her PhD on Monday 17th July 2017.

Yanni received funding for her PhD from EPSRC Photonics HyperHighway to propose and implement an SDN-defined optical hardware device to support optical network virtualisation, targeting future high-performance network-based applications. This work covers both the physical layer and control layer of the networks. She has also worked intensively on network modelling and resource optimisation.

Since March 2016, Yanni has been a Research Associate within the High Performance Network Group at the University of Bristol, contributing to research on FP7 COSIGN (Combining Optics and SDN in Next Generation Data Centre Networks).

Alongside her studies, Yanni has also published in high quality journals and presented papers at leading conferences.  Yanni is currently involved in the UK EPSRC Quantum Hub project, introducing Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) into the SDN defined traditional optical networks.
