Intercalating

As a Student visa holder you are permitted to undertake an intercalated bachelor’s or master’s degree course or PhD where you are studying medicine, veterinary medicine and science, or dentistry as your main course of study.

If you would like to undertake an intercalated year, please note the following:

  • You will be required to apply for a new Student visa because you will require an additional year of study.
  • You can make this visa application in the UK or in your home country.
  • You can make the visa application either before you start your intercalated year or after you have completed your intercalated year.
  • You will be required to apply for a new ATAS certificate (if your course requires one) before you commence the intercalated year.  You will also be required to apply for a new ATAS certificate (if your course requires one) before you switch back onto your original course.

If you are interested in undertaking an intercalated year, please seek advice from your school/faculty regarding your academic programme.
