Textbooks

Bristol students are taught by people who write the textbooks that they and many other university students use for studying chemistry. We have an outstanding staff who are dedicated to taking you right to the cutting edge of the subject.

  • Organic Chemistry
This textbook is used to help develop students' understanding of organic chemistry at many UK institutions and worldwide. Jonathan Clayden is the book's lead author and is a member of the Organic and Biological Section of the School of Chemistry at Bristol.
  • Organic Chemistry: The Disconnection Approach
Paul Wyatt is a member of the Organic and Biological Section of the School of Chemistry at Bristol. He co-wrote The Disconnection Approach, used in teaching retrosynthesis where we learn how to plan the synthetic route to a target compound.
  • Organic Chemistry: Strategy and Control
Paul Wyatt also co-wrote Strategy and Control, documenting key concepts used in synthesising organic molecules.
  • Organic Synthesis
Christine Willis is a member of the Organic and Biological Section of the School of Chemistry at Bristol and has co-written the Organic Synthesis primer documenting effective synthetic design.
  • Periodicity and the s- and p-Block Elements
Nick Norman is a member of the Inorganic and Materials Section of the School of Chemistry at Bristol and has written Periodicity and the s- and p-Block Elements primer discussing important trends and properties of the s- and p-block elements.
