School of Chemistry receives Athena Swan Silver award

11 April 2024

The School of Chemistry been awarded Athena Swan Silver, in recognition of our gender equality work.

Advance HE’s Athena Swan Charter is a framework used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research. This is the first time that our School has held a Silver award, and it reflects our significant achievements in improving gender diversity within the School, based on the hard work and commitment of many people over several decades.

The full application will be published on our website in due course.

The Athena Swan submission was led by Tom Oliver and Lucy Shaw along with the School of Chemistry's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

A major component of the proposal is the future action plan, which lays out an ambitious five-year vision of how we can further address gender inequality within the School. In this strive towards full gender equality, we will need sustained and coordinated efforts of everyone within the School to work together and achieve this important ambition.
