Bristol PhD graduate Maryam Bashir wins 2023 CSC Research Output award

School of Chemistry PhD graduate Maryam Bashir has been selected as the winner of the 2023 Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) Research Output Award stream for her article examining the successful completion of a nine-step synthesis of the potent anti-Tuberculosis (TB) drug, Bedaquiline.

The article, entitled 'Application of Enantioselective Sulphur Ylide Epoxidation to a Short Asymmetric Synthesis of Bedaquiline, a Potent Anti-Tuberculosis Drug', was published in Organic Letters in 2023.

Maryam is a 2020 Commonwealth Split-site Scholar from Pakistan, who completed a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bristol with Professor Varinder Aggarwal.
