The University of Bristol’s Cabot Institute for the Environment has appointed as interim Director, Professor Guy Howard, for the next six months while we recruit for the new Director.

Professor Guy Howard, from the University’s Department of Civil Engineering, started his new role on Monday 1 July, taking over from Professor Jemma Wadham, who has been appointed as Chair of UiT the Arctic University of Norway/Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, Norway.

Guy is a Global Research Chair in Environmental and Infrastructure Resilience at the University of Bristol and brings a wealth of experience not just from academia but also the civil service and industry.

Guy said: “The next six months are a hugely important time for the environment with COP26 in Glasgow and COP 15 in Beijing where the world must make decisions and agree actions to tackle the climate and ecological emergency.

Cabot has and will play a key role around both these agendas and I am really excited to be working with you all during this time. I am looking forward to continuing the great work by Jemma in building the profile and range of activities in Cabot and supporting the community over the next six months.

I will in particular focus on building our offer and strategy on climate and health, strengthening our local and international partnerships and working with the Cabot team to secure more funding for our activities.”
