Glynne Wickham Archive

Glynne Wickham was one of the founders of the Bristol University Drama Department, a trail-blazer in the study of early drama, and a major supporter of the campaign to remove the conventions of censorship which impeded the production of religious drama.

On his death, Glynne Wickham’s archive passed to the University of Bristol Theatre Collection The archive of photographs, notes, newspaper cuttings, programmes, and photographs, relates to Wickham’s career from his days with the Oxford University Drama Society immediately before World War II, and also contains materials he inherited from Neville Coghill, who was involved in early drama revivals in the 1930s, as well as records of Bristol University productions directed by Wickham and also by Neville Denny, including the ambitious production of the Cornish Ordinalia, directed by Denny in the Piran Round in the late 1960s. When combined with the Wickham papers which are a part of the Bristol University Drama Department archive, these materials cover well over half a century of activity in the field.
