Bath Theatre Royal Collection

Overview

Built on its current site in 1805, the Theatre Royal Bath is one of the oldest working theatres in the country. Beautifully refurbished in 2010, The Main House offers a year-round programme of top-quality drama, including many West End productions, opera, comedy, dance and frequent Sunday concerts.

The Theatre Royal also houses the egg theatre for children, young people and their families and the egg Cafe (open throughout the day); the Ustinov Studio, which is currently producing nationally acclaimed seasons of UK premieres, interspersed with drama from visiting companies, comedy and music; the Vaults Restaurant (for pre-show dining); and the historic Garricks Head Pub.

The Theatre Royal's many regular events include the Family Theatre Festival, Summer Season, Shakespeare Unplugged Festival and a traditional family pantomime at Christmas.

What the collection holds

The University of Bristol Theatre Collection has a long-term relationship with the Bath Theatre Royal, who over many years have donated an extensive collection of their marketing material to us, programmes, posters, photographs, slides and commemorative ephemera. Since it is not the official company archive, it does not hold their administrative records.

The online catalogue for this collection can be viewed here:
TRB - Theatre Royal Bath Archive

It is currently uncatalogued so please contact us for further information regarding its contents and access.
