Adrian Varcoe Theatre Collection

Overview

Adrian Varcoe (1944 – 2005) was a Bristol based drag artist and actor who appeared in various episodes of the popular science fiction TV series Blake 7 (1979) and K-9 and Company (1981).

Varcoe was also an avid collector of Theatrical documentation and memorabilia, and he amassed this extensive collection of important cuttings, programmes, correspondence, sheet music, menus and many other items spanning British theatre activity during the entire 19th and first half of the 20th century.

A substantial number of items refer to James Macready Chute and other members of the Chute family owners of the Prince’s Theatre in Bristol from the 1860s until 1931, and to the actors Ethel & Murray Carrington, and the Murray Carrington Company at the Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon- Avon.
