It provides an environment to conduct experimental Research and Development at reduced risk and cost, attracting global partners, skilled professionals, and investment to the region.

Co-creating our digital futures

The Temple Quarter Research Hub is home to:

  • Bristol Digital Futures Institute (BDFI): A £100m initiative, including £29m from Research England's UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF), aimed at advancing digital innovation for sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous futures.
  • MyWorld: A global centre for creative technology innovation, uniting world-leading partners from academia and industry to drive growth and societal change.

State-of-the-art facilities

The TQ Research Hub offers a unique facility with innovative research equipment, including:

  • The Reality Emulator: A digital twin facility enabling interdisciplinary and cross-sector projects, expected to be fully operational this year.
  • The Smart Cinema: The world's first fully instrumented auditorium, allowing for non-invasive audience response measurement.
  • The Experimental Studio: A multicamera live studio featuring a 9m LED Virtual Production Stage.
  • Edit Suites and Production Galleries

The space

The TQ Research Hub is located on Avon Street, just across the water from the main academic building currently under development at TQEC, and a short walk from the Bristol Dental School, which opened in 2023.

The building is a transformation of the Retort House (1821) and Coal Shed (1850), originally part of the Bristol Gas Light Company, which first brought gas and gas lighting to the city. We aim to continue this legacy of innovation.
