Inbound Study Abroad students

If you are coming to Bristol for your Study Abroad programme there is some additional specific information you need to know.

This information is for students starting their programme in September 2024. If you are already living in Bristol, check our information for current international students

Our accommodation guarantee

Direct enrol (non-exchange) students

We will guarantee you an offer University accommodation for semester 1 (September entry) and semester 2 (January entry).

You must apply by the deadline. 

Exchange students from institutions outside of Europe

We will guarantee you an offer of University accommodation for semester 1 (September entry).

You must you apply by the deadline.

We cannot guarantee an offer for semester 2 (January entry).

We will aim to place as many students as possible in University accommodation. If we cannot, we will support you in finding private accommodation.

Exchange students from our European partners

We cannot guarantee you an offer of University accommodation for either semester.

You are still welcome to apply. If we cannot place you, we will support you in finding private rented accommodation.

When to arrive

You should arrive no later than Sunday 8 September. Induction activities are mandatory and in-person.

Study Abroad welcome and induction activities begin on Monday 9 September.

Registration and orientation

You need to register before the start of your programme. We will contact you with more information closer to the start of the semester.

Study Abroad (General pathway) students

Welcome and induction activities will start from Monday 9 September. The Centre for Study Abroad team will send more information before the start of the semester.

Study Abroad (Subject pathway) students

Welcome and induction activities will start from Monday 9 September. There will also be a welcome session in your host academic department during the first week of term.

University ID card (UCard)

Your UCard is your personal University card. You need it to access campus facilities.

After you have completed registration, you can upload your photo for your UCard.

Tuition fees

Your offer letter includes information about your tuition and accommodation fees.

Exchange students

Students coming to Bristol as part of an exchange partnership do not pay any tuition fees to the University of Bristol. If you receive an invoice for tuition fees, contact the Centre for Study Abroad inbound team.

Sponsored students

If you are coming to Bristol through a programme provider or if your home university is paying your tuition fees on your behalf, you are classified as a sponsored student. Your sponsor will be invoiced after you have registered. If you receive an invoice for tuition fees directly, contact the Centre for Study Abroad inbound team.

Self-financing students

You will receive an invoice for your tuition fees after you have registered.

Accommodation fees

Your accommodation fees are due when you take up your place in University accommodation. Find out how to pay your accommodation fees.

If you are being sponsored for accommodation, your invoices will be sent directly to your sponsor. If you receive an invoice in error, contact the Centre for Study Abroad inbound team.
