Three students in Royal Fort Gardens

PhD study in the School for Policy Studies

The School for Policy Studies (SPS) is a world-renowned centre for research into the theory, practice, and implementation of social and public policy.

We combine innovative conceptual thinking with diverse methodologies to address the determinants of social problems and the responses to them by governments, policy makers and practitioners.

Our research embraces a distinctive multidisciplinary approach, working collaboratively with partners across the globe to ensure that what we do has impact where it is most needed.

Research environment

SPS provides a stimulating postgraduate research (PGR) environment, with our students supervised by world leading scholars and research-active staff.

Embedding PGR students into our research centres and culture enables us to foster student self-development with the aim of creating independent researchers and thinkers.

Student community

The School has an active and supportive postgraduate student community. Led by PGR representatives, SPS organises a range of events to support camaraderie throughout the PGR student cohort, through seminars, public lectures, reading groups, and social events. This ensures that the PGR community becomes a part of and adds to the collegial culture within the School.
