Hub academics’ evidence to the DCMS Committee inquiry into Gambling Regulations published

23 March 2023

In December 2022, the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Select Committee launched an inquiry into the Government’s approach to the regulation of gambling, following warnings that more needs to be done to protect people from gambling-related harms. With the White Paper on reforms to gambling regulation due to be published some time in 2023, the inquiry was particularly concerned with how to ensure that regulation keeps up with innovations in online gambling and the links between gambling, broadcasting and sport.

Hub academics Dr Raffaello Rossi, Professor Agnes Nairn and Professor Sharon Collard submitted evidence to this inquiry which has now been published online. Their evidence focussed particularly on reforms to advertising regulations, especially in relation to online gambling ads. The evidence called for “specific online advertising regulations need to be introduced” at the bare minimum.
