Dr Carrie Weidner appointed open ended lectureship

28 November 2022

Dr Carrie Weidner (who previously held a fixed term lectureship associated with the QE-CDT ) has been appointed in open competition to an open ended lectureship position jointly between Physics and SCEEM.

Carrie has kindly shared some background information regarding her appointment below:

Dr Carrie Weidner did all of her higher education at the University of Colorado Boulder, where her PhD in 2018 was on the development of interferometric sensing with ultracold atoms trapped in optical lattices. She then moved to Aarhus University in Denmark to work on quantum control and quantum simulation, specifically as it relates to the control and imaging of single ultracold atoms in so-called quantum gas microscopes. She also worked on quantum education and outreach while in Denmark.

Dr Weidner has been in Bristol since February 2022, where she is working on the development and implementation of robust quantum control theory and practice, atom sensing via hot atom vapour, and physics education research.

Eventually, she plans to bring ultracold atoms to Bristol and use them for quantum sensing and simulation purposes. She is always keen to talk about physics and welcomes any chance to discuss and potentially collaborate.
