Bristol awarded funding for quantum international summer school

Press release issued: 16 January 2023

Lead by Dr Jorge Barreto, Bristol will be hosting a Quantum International Summer School in Integrated Quantum Photonics, funded by EPSRC

The EPSRC recently announced funding for two International Quantum Summer Schools in 2023, one of which will be hosted in Bristol.

The International Summer School in Integrated Quantum Photonics (ISS:IQP) will provide lectures and hands-on training in Integrated Quantum Photonics. The event will take place between 19-26 July, for around 60 attendees. The programme will cover the fundamental principles of integrated photonics, including lab sessions on design and simulation; the use of linear optical circuits for quantum optics and the generation and measurement of quantum photonic states and application of these concepts to computation, imaging, metrology and communications.

Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training Director Dr Jorge Barreto said: "This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the field to both gain a theoretical and experimental understanding of the fundamentals of integrated quantum photonics as well as establishing new connections across the UK, USA and Canada. The academic team of ISS:IQP has tailored a fantastically well-balanced training programme that builds upon years of experience delivering our Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training and research in integrated quantum photonics within QET Labs at Bristol."

ISS:IQP is targeted at PhD students from the UK, the USA and Canada, with emphasis on those who are already familiar with quantum information science and technology but not specifically its implementation using integrated photonic circuits. Multiple fully funded bursaries will be available. Attendees will be given the opportunity to present a poster of their own work and interact with our industrial partners and local quantum entrepreneurs and researchers. Registration is now open, closing on 10 April 2023 (or 20 March for those who require a visa to enter the UK).
