Head of Public Engagement with Research

• Dee Smart

  I lead the team and direct the University's approach to public engagement with research. My focus covers strategic drivers for engagement with research, how engagement links with other forms of knowledge exchange and impact, brokering partnerships, and capacity building, particularly through major funding bids.

Public Engagement Associates

Our Public Engagement Associates provide subject-specific engagement advice to research staff and students. They support researchers to plan public engagement as a route to impact, secure funding, make connections with community partners, and deliver innovative engagement projects.

• Mireia Bes Garcia

  I work with researchers from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. I manage our partnership with We The Curious, and have special focus on Responsible Research and Innovation, and art-research collaborations.
• Rhys Charles

  I work with researchers in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. I have hands-on experience of science communication activities and manage our partnership with the Natural History Consortium.
• Ellie Hart

  I work with researchers from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences including the Business School. I co-ordinate Thinking Futures festival alongside Ben Meller. I also have a special focus on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and deliver a programme of RRI to four Centres for Doctoral Training at the University.
• Jenny Jopson

  I work on FUTURES, a festival of discovery across the South West that connects families, adults and school children with research. I lead on event production and support researchers to develop engaging activities through collaborative working and training. 
• Ben Meller

  I work with researchers from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences including the Business School. I manage our partnership with Knowle West Media Centre and Coordinate two research festivals: FUTURES and Thinking Futures.
• Joel Morley

  I work with researchers from the Faculty of Science and Engineering. I am also Project Manager for FUTURES, a festival of research delivered each Autumn by researchers across the South West.
• Hannah Berg

  I coordinate our Participatory Research Fund, which funds co-produced research with community partners and supports Bristol researchers to deliver impactful projects.

Project Roles in Public Engagement

• Alison Rivett, Evaluation Officer

  I provide guidance and support for evaluating engagement activities, capturing the impact of engagement related to research, training opportunities for evaluation, and sharing good practice.
• Diane Thorne, Projects and Events Officer

  I work across the team to support our projects and events, keeping everything running smoothly. Come and talk to me if you’d like to partner with University researchers on an event.
