TARG alumna Dr. Jorien Treur has been awarded a L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science (FWiS) Fellowship.

Jorien was previously part of TARG and since she left in 2018 has remained a close collaborator since. The aim of the FWiS program is to stimulate the scientific career of talented young women scientists. The €25,000 grant will allow Jorien to spend a semester at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (part of the Royal Dutch Academy). There, she will study the causal nature of the relationship between substance use and mental disorders. Her goal is to compare insights from novel genetic methods (Mendelian randomization) to more traditional methods and develop a model that fully explains why substance use and mental disorders co-occur.‌

For more information, including a short video featuring Jorien, please see this post by NIAS (the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences).
