Foundations and Research Funders

The JRF is an independent social change organisation providing reports and research funding for practical strategies to reduce poverty, and wider social and economic inequalities. Produced the report, Living standards, poverty and inequality in the UK: 2016–17 to 2021–2022 which highlighted projected changes in household incomes between 2014–15 and 2021–22.  

This foundation believes that every life has equal value, and provides grants to improve the lives of people who have the most urgent needs and the fewest champions.

CFNI promotes community development and supports a context for peace and social justice whilst aiming to reduce poverty and exclusion. They provide grants as well as manage grant making programmes for a range of organisations, including Comic Relief.

The ESRC are the UK's largest organisation for funding research on economic and social issues. They support independent, high quality research which has an impact on business, the public sector and civil society. Their total budget for 2017-18 was around £202 million. At any one time ESRC supports over 4,000 researchers and postgraduate students in academic institutions and independent research institutes.

The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation aim is to support closer links between the UK and Japan. It does this by:

(a) making grants available to individuals, institutions and organisations to promote links between the UK and Japan across all fields of activity

(b) awarding scholarships to young British graduates to study Japan and its language

(c) organising a year-round programme of events to increase understanding of Japan in the UK.
