CEM Seminar 7 - Research Ethics in Humanitarian setting: The Palestinian Narrative

10 February 2022, 12.00 PM - 10 February 2022, 1.00 PM

Professor Niveen Abu-Rmeileh from the Institute of Community and Public Health, Birzeit University

Ethical issues can arise when research projects are being designed, while they are being conducted, and during the dissemination of their findings. Research ethics focuses on ethics approval procedures, but ethical decisions are made throughout the research process. Starting from the ethics review process, community engagement, informed consent, cultural considerations, and risks to researchers. Unfortunately, researchers often have little support and guidance in addressing these ethical issues. This seminar will bring context-specific examples of ethical challenges facing researchers working in a humanitarian setting. The occupied Palestinian territory has been under occupation for more than seven decades. Researchers struggle to conduct robust research facing the classical challenges and the challenges related to occupation, uncertainty, insecurity, and limited resources. This seminar will highlight ethical issues related to such challenges.
