Student Clinical Ethics Forum (SCEF) for Medical Students at the University of Bristol

The SCEF is a student led organisation aiming to promote ethics discussion and help students develop their ethical reasoning skills alongside ethics teaching at the university.

Attendance is optional and open to all students at Bristol Medical School. The SCEF provides a safe space to explore ethical dilemmas arising in practice, and is an opportunity for students to apply their theoretical understanding of ethics to real life problems. The SCEF is not a support service for students but, where appropriate, students will be signposted to support services.

Three meetings will be held on the University of Bristol campus per year, one per term, and everyone in attendance will be asked to comply with a confidentiality agreement and code of conduct.

Students will get the opportunity to discuss real life, anonymised cases and, reach conclusions as a committee.

The meeting structure will reflect that of a standard UK clinical ethics committee, with a chair, vice chair and secretary. A member of staff will also be in attendance to help facilitate the discussion. The secretary will take minutes for the meetings.
