Over the last two decades, the term "translational ethics" has been used to describe strategic activities that support the implementation of ethically justified requirements in various areas of biomedicine and technology. In this talk, I present a framework for key tasks in a translational process we call transformative medical ethics. We suggest a step-by-step process that aims to change a practice according to normative ethical requirements. The framework becomes particularly important when there is a gap between widely accepted, ethically based normative demands and their implementation in the practice of biomedicine and biomedical technology (ought-is gap). I will use the example of the implementation of the norm of respect for autonomy in the practice of medical decision-making to illustrate the framework.
