CEM Seminar 6 - Are delusions pathological?

4 February 2021, 12.00 PM - 4 February 2021, 1.00 PM

Professor Lisa Bortolotti, University of Birmingham, UK

Online

Abstract: In this talk, I am arguing that there are no good grounds for considering delusions as pathological beliefs according the most influential theories of delusion formation and the standard ways to understand what being pathological entails. The conclusion that delusions are not obviously pathological is a first step towards what I call a unified definition of delusion encompassing symptoms of mental disorders and beliefs such as climate change denial.
