Clinical Ethics Consultation 2020

NOTICE: IN light of the Covid-19 pandemic, this event has been postponed.

As part of our remit to offer support for clinical ethics support services, the Centre for Ethics in Medicine is planning to run a clinical ethics support training day.

The one-day event will consist of seminars covering aspects of clinical ethics consultation and discussion of case studies. The course will focus on methods of clinical ethics consultation, supplemented with teaching on ethical theory. Focusing on a single case, in the morning we will describe several frameworks for case discussion, giving worked examples, before moving on to an overview of ethical theory. The overview will revisit the case under discussion and indicate what these theories may bring to the table, as well as considering what current understanding of moral psychology may tell us about the limitations of theory. A lecture by CEM’s Jonathan Ives on moral distress will consider the impact of practice on clinicians.
