Postgraduate research at CEM
The Centre for Ethics in Medicine has a vibrant and diverse postgraduate research community. Some doctoral students are based in the Centre itself, whilst others are based with other research groups, or other schools, and are co-supervised by Centre staff. We offer an excellent environment to conduct doctoral research, with outstanding training and networking opportunities.
The Centre has long history of supporting postgraduate research students, and in fact its current Director (Richard Huxtable) was in the first cohort of PhD students to graduate through the Centre.
Centre staff have been very active in the national Bioethics postgraduate community, and its current Deputy Director (Jon Ives) founded the annual Postgraduate Bioethics Conference (PGBC) in 2006. This has gone on to become an annual fixture in the UK Bioethics calendar. The Centre hosted the 10 year anniversary PGBC conference in 2016.Current PhD students Jordan Parsons and Harleen Johal are currently on the IME Postgraduate Committee, who organise the conference.
We have strong links with the Institute of Medical Ethics Postgraduate Group, and we reserve space on our research seminar series each year for postgraduate speakers.
