Based on a global survey of senior academics, these rankings reflect which universities they believe are leading the way in research and teaching excellence.

In the previous rankings in 2023, Bristol placed in the 91-100 category, which means the University has risen at least 23 places in this latest assessment, published today.

The good news comes just a month after THE released their subject rankings, which saw Bristol’s Education subjects placed 43rd in the world and almost all its other subjects ranked in the global top 100 in their fields.

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2025 also ranked Bristol first in the world for research quality in Medical and Health subjects, including medicine, dentistry and anatomy.

Prof Judith Squires, the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, said: “It is wonderful to see Bristol making strides in THE’s highly regarded rankings.

“It is particularly pleasing that fellow academics are recognising our research and teaching as world leading. We collaborate with universities across the globe and we are incredibly proud of those strong relationships.

Bristol has also shone in other global rankings. Last year, it was named the 54^th best university in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and 12^th most sustainable in the world in the 2025 QS World Sustainability Rankings.
