THE now ranks Bristol as the 76th best university in the world and the ninth best in the UK.
Released today, these are THE’s most extensive rankings to date, with a record 1,799 universities surveyed across 104 countries.
Professor Evelyn Welch, the University’s new Vice-Chancellor and President, said: “Bristol’s impressive rise in the Times Higher World Rankings is testimony to our amazing staff and students and the difference they make in the world.
“I am very proud to have joined a world-leading University that uses our remarkable research outputs and teaching prowess to serve the city of Bristol and beyond at a global level.
“I want to thank all our staff for their hard work in making our success possible.”
THE rated the universities on four key criteria: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Bristol performed particularly well on the number and quality of academic citations, reaching a record 34th place among all universities surveyed.
THE analysed more than 121 million citations across 15.5 million research publications.
In June, the QS World University Rankings placed Bristol as the 61st best university in the world.
Meanwhile, two other league tables recently ranked some of Bristol’s courses among the best in the UK.
The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 and The Guardian University Guide 2023 enthused about Bristol’s engineering, education, languages and animal science courses.
