The award recognises innovative contributions to the teaching of chemistry from elementary school to postgraduate study and the promotion of chemistry to prospective students and the public. The ACS national awards recipients will be honoured at an awards ceremony on 23 March 2021, in conjunction with the ACS 2021 Spring National Meeting, in San Antonio, Texas. 

A  George C Pimentel Award nominee must have made outstanding contributions to chemical education, including the training of professional chemists; the dissemination of reliable information about chemistry to prospective chemists, members of the profession, students in other fields, and the general public; and the integration of chemistry into our educational system.   

Professor Shallcross joined Bristol in 1999 as a lecturer, then Reader (2004) and now Professor (2007), conducting research into atmospheric chemistry, science education and public engagement in science. He is currently the Director of the AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust.
