18,000 people to visit Bristol for University open day

Press release issued: 5 September 2018

Over 18,000 visitors will be attending the University of Bristol’s latest undergraduate open day on Saturday [08 September].

Prospective students and their guests will get a taste of university life and the chance to learn about the wide range of degree courses on offer as well as scholarship and funding opportunities.

The University of Bristol has recently been ranked 7th in the UK in the CWUR rankings and 9th in the UK in the QS league table.

A selection of street food pop ups showcasing some of the city’s culinary offerings will be on offer across the campus with many of Bristol’s restaurants and eateries represented.

All undergraduate schools and departments are taking part and will be hosting interactive demonstrations, tours, talks and displays offering future students a real insight into the University experience at Bristol.

General information sessions relating to aspects of university life, such as accommodation, student finance and study and work abroad opportunities complete the picture, along with tailored sessions for parents and carers, teachers, careers advisers and mature students.

Beacon House, the University’s flagship student study centre on Queen’s Road, will house displays from the Faculty of Arts. Staff from Library Services will be at Beacon House to provide information about the study skills support available to all students.

Visitors will be able to view a selection of student residences in the city centre, Clifton and Stoke Bishop, with a free shuttle bus service running between the main University campus and Stoke Bishop throughout the day.

The Bristol Veterinary School, based on the Langford Campus, will be open to visitors interested in veterinary nursing and veterinary science courses.

Alicia O’Grady, Director of External Relations at the University of Bristol, said: "We’re looking forward to welcoming open day visitors, both local and those from further afield, and hope they will enjoy their time exploring our fantastic city and campus.

"Open days are an ideal opportunity for prospective students and their guests to gain a real flavour of University life and city culture as well as seeing what the University can offer in terms of accommodation, prospects and pastoral support.”

Further information

In order to accommodate the number of people attending the event, the following roads will be closed from 00:01 on 7 September until 19:00 on 8 September: Woodland Road (north end), Priory Road and Tyndall Avenue. Woodland Road (south end) will have enforced traffic calming measures in place. The University apologises for any disruption caused during the open day.

Due to the University’s central location and limited city-centre parking, open day visitors are strongly advised to use public transport and the alternative services on offer.
