The afternoon exhibition will offer fresh insight into many world challenges as well as having something to whet the learning appetite of almost anyone. Interactive displays and engaging activities will cover a range of topics including divorce, the soul, living computers, Cancer Immunology and dance.

After the exhibition, the 3MT® competition finals will see researchers showcase scholarly skill, speed and panache as Bristol researchers battle to deliver their findings in just three short minutes.

The tournament will see eight University of Bristol finalists whittle their thesis down to a short and snappy presentation. The winner of the University finals will then compete in the national competition.

An 80,000 word thesis would take around nine hours to wax lyrical about and with just three minutes to work with, the competition is a seemingly impossible feat.

The students will showcase ‘in a nutshell’ the findings and impact of their research, with topics ranging from predicting Alzheimer’s and invertebrate vision to the fight against cancer.

Pooneh Roney, Graduate School of Education, Social Sciences & Law, said: “As researchers we dedicate so much time and effort to our theses and this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our own findings while exploring the work of others in a dynamic and fast-paced setting. Summarising a seemingly infinite amount of information into just three minutes is challenging, but also a great way of homing in on the core of the research and its impact.”
