The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has approved six years of funding for the successor to the South West Doctoral Training Centre, in which Bristol is the lead institution.
The ESRC has commissioned 14 new Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) to succeed the current Doctoral Training Centres. The new South West Doctoral Training Partnership has been accredited for six years with an allocation of 45 studentships and will welcome its first cohort of students in October 2017.
The Universities of Bath, Bristol and Exeter established the South West Doctoral Training Centre (SWDTC) in 2011. Now, along with Bristol (which continues as the lead institution), Bath and Exeter, the DTP includes the University of the West of England and Plymouth University. This forms a regional partnership which will offer greater opportunities for staff and students alike.
