New grants include:

• £225,000 from the NIHR School for Social Care Research for Dr Val Williams, Dr Sue Porter and Jon Symonds for their project, ‘Victims of the System: assessors and assessed’, in partnership with the West of England Centre for Independent Living (WECIL).
• £163,000 from NIHR PHR (Public Health Research) for Dr Angie Page and Professor Ashley Cooper for a study of the impact on physical activity of re-housing people from the London borough of Newham to flats on the newly developed Olympic Park.
• Funding from the Department for Education for a project by Professor Elaine Farmer and Dr Dendy Platt (in partnership with the NSPCC) entitled ‘Improving permanence in relation to children returning home’.
• ESRC funding for a range of projects including work by Professor Andy Gouldson (on the dynamics of green growth in European and Chinese cities), Dr Danielle Turney (‘The application of a cognitive and affective interviewing model in social work supervision’), Dr Pauline Heslop (an ESRC Seminar Series, ‘International comparisons of mortality data about people with intellectual disabilities’), and David Sweeting (an ESRC seminar series, ‘Reuniting planning and health: tackling the implementation gaps in evidence, governance and knowledge’).
