The fund supports research and development projects that use digital technology to develop audiences for the arts and explore new business models. The Bristol work is one of five new projects to be supported in this way.
The Hidden Museum is a project to develop a tablet and mobile game that uses iBeacons, which deliver information relevant to a person’s location, to help engage families and groups with the exhibits they are visiting and bring a new dimension to their experience.
The project team includes Dr Frances Giampapa and Professor Keri Facer in the Graduate School of Education, Dr Kirsten Cater in the Department of Computer Science, and colleagues from Bristol Museums, Galleries and Archives and Aardman Animations.
