Lecturers and students from the University of Bristol took to the airwaves on BBC Radio 4 today [07 April] for comedy quiz show the 3rd Degree.

The lively programme, hosted by comedian Steve Punt, pitted three students against their professors to find out who would take the quiz crown.

In a close-fought and humorous affair, the ‘dons’ won by 40 points to 30 – one of the highest combined scores in the show’s history.

You can listen to the show on BBC iPlayer, or it’s repeated on BBC Radio 4 this Saturday [12 April] at 11pm.

The Bristol ‘dons’ who did their University proud were former Mastermind contestant George Ferzoco, from the Department of Religion and Theology, Dr Helen Heath from the School of Physics, and Dr Gareth Griffith from the Department of English.

Their clever student rivals were Andrew Smith (Religion and Theology), Max Leonardo (Physics) and Claire Murgatroyd (English).

Tensions were high as they competed in the various rounds - specialist and general knowledge, quick-fire, bell-and-buzzer, individual questions and 'highbrow and lowbrow' – but the lecturers just edged it thanks to the quick buzzing of George Ferzoco in the final round.
