The exhibition, which features 60 outstanding portraits, comes to Bristol following its success at the National Portrait Gallery, London.  It showcases the work of some of the most talented emerging young photographers, alongside that of established professionals, photography students and gifted amateurs.  The judges selected 60 portraits for the exhibition from 5,340 submissions entered by 2,352 photographers.

Join Dr Barnaby Haran in the exhibition on Friday 16 August 2013 from 1pm-1.30pm when he will be exploring photographic portraiture as a collaborative relationship in which photographer and subject negotiate the production of the image.

On Friday 25 October 2013 from 1pm-1.30pm visitors can join Dr Dorothy Rowe as she considers how portrait photography has exerted fascination on the viewer since its early invention, and asks questions such as 'What does it mean to be photographed nude?' and 'What are the viewing dynamics between photographer, sitter and viewer?'

Both talks are free and open to all.

This current collaboration follows the Department of History of Art’s successful collaboration earlier this year with Bristol Museum and Art Gallery on the education events programme for their exhibition No Borders: Global to Local.
