The children got involved in various Christmas themed activities including face painting, making tree decorations, playing party games and a visit to Santa’s Grotto.

The festivities concluded with a performance from the University of Bristol’s Improvisation Society and a children’s tea party, complete with candy floss courtesy of Candypop hire.

UBU Volunteering invited children from the Full Circle Project, which aims to enhance the life chances of young people, Humbard, a project that works with Asian families living in Bristol and the Jolidays project which provides respite for young carers.

This year UBU Volunteering also invited children from the IntoUniversity programme, which aims to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain a university place.

Najib Chowdhury, student and project coordinator of Jolidays said: “The party was a huge success with some wonderful young children enjoying a great afternoon of festive fun and games.”

The party was made possible by the efforts of the UBU Volunteering Executive Committee, who hosted a speed dating event to raise funds for the Christmas event. Donations were also received from Bristol’s Alumni Foundation and a Children in Need grant.

Chris Duncan, Student Volunteering Administrator at UBU said: “The day was immensely enjoyable and it was clear that both the children and students had a brilliant time together. Special thanks go to Churchill Hall for generously providing the use of their facilities and South Gloucestershire Coach and Bus Company for the transport.”

UBU Volunteering supports students to build positive relationships with the wider Bristol community through developing volunteering opportunities in long term projects and in one-off events.
